When you talk about lavish lifestyle, the first few must-have things that comes to mind is having a luxury car. Luxury cars are plenty more than just a mode of transport or getting you from point A to point B. It is much more than that – it is a transportation barge that is supposed to get you from point A to point B in style; never on time though. That is pretty much the French attitude though.
In some sense then, no one understands luxury like the French. So, when you go for a luxury car you should buy French right? Well, that is the problem -you don’t. Even when you talk about regular cars you don’t talk about French cars first.
French brands like Peugeot are notorious when it comes to their reliability. But there are some good things about them – they are always a nice place to be in. They are some of the most comfortable cars you can buy for your money too. That is, weirdly the general perception of the French attitude. The Peugeot 5008 is an exact interpretation of that French flair today – except of course we cannot comment on it’s reliability; for now.
So what is this, the new Peugeot 5008? Its proportions is of that of an MPV. It seats 7 adults confortably with enough space for the entire family’s luggage for a weekend trip. But it is not an MPV. It is, in fact an SUV for the urban family.
The all-new Peugeot 5008 is slightly longer than it’s previous generation model which means there is extra room in the already large barge of a thing. There is the new full LED headlamps with sequential scrolling indicators that gives it an extra flair and dram on the road. The tailgate is now wider than before and it has a lower opening to make extra room in the boot. It’s also now even easier to load up your luggage or whatever in your boot.
Inside the Peugeot 5008 you get sumptuous leather seats for all 6 passengers for a comfortable ride anywhere, anytime. It’s even more driver focused now with a more compact steering wheel for that premium driving feel. There is the brilliant looking 8-inch touch screen display at the center console controlling not just audio and your Android Auto/Apple Carplay, but nearly every part of electronics of the luxo-barge. In front of the driver is the 12.3-inch display that shows all sorts of critical information that a driver needs to keep him/her focused and updated on the car’s status (speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer etc. obviously). The seats in the rearmost third row can be folded down to make even more room for more luggage and shopping (1,060 liters). To make things even easier, the tailgate is motorised.
Performance? Quite French too. Under the bonnet is a 1.6 liter Turbo THP engine that spits out 167PS and 240Nm of tourqe. That turbo engine is matched to a 6-speed auto with paddle shifters. The result? 0-100km/h in, there is no other way to say this, 9.2 seconds. It hits top speed at 206km/h which is still well above the national speed limit. It is not something to shout about though.
The Peugeot 5008 engine’s party piece is not its straightline speed though. It is an SUV anyway, why would you maniacs drive your kids in a rocket? It is fuel efficiency.
It drinks petrol at the rate of 7.3 liters for every 100km you go (combined highway and city). Its carbon emission goes at 133g/km which is impressive for a car this size. That is also thanks to it’s kerb weight if 1,385kg which is also highly impressive given its size.
The Peugeot 5008 also really safe with the expected 5-star in the EURO NCAP rating. Going down a slope isn’t too scary anymore with the Hill Assist Descent Control (HADC) that makes sure you get down a steep hill surely and safely. In case things go awry there is 6 airbags to cushion you and your passagers. The new Advanced Electronic Stability Program (ESP) also makes sure you don’t lose control at speed too.
The all-new Peugeot 5008 is now available across Malaysia via any of Peugeot dealerships starting from MYR173,888 (OTR w/o insurance). Colours available in Malaysia are Emerald Crystal, Amazonite Grey, Nera Black, and Pearlescent White. You get a 5-year warranty with the car and access the 24-hours Peugeot Assistance service.
