This article is contributed by IKEA Malaysia

Hari Raya is less than a month away, and it is a much-anticipated celebration filled with feasting, communion, and festivity. Decked out in new baju raya, everyone is sure to be prepared for the quintessential selfies and wefies.

This Hari Raya, be inspired to dress up your house to give you the perfect backdrop for beautiful memories. An impressively furnished home adds to the festive atmosphere and might just help you capture that perfect shot that you want to share with everyone you know.

Here are 3 quick, simple things that you can do to get your house Insta-ready for Hari Raya.

1. Flat Lay Your Beautiful Feast

After spending hours cooking a storm in the kitchen, you finally complete a veritable feast for your family and guests. After laying them out on the table, take a flat lay photo to capture that perfect memory and entice those who couldn’t make it. Let them know what they are missing such as the delightful Raya delicacies of rendang, lontong and ketupat!

Make your photos pop by utilising vibrant napkins and table runners, bringing colour to your dining table for the perfect shot. Another tip is to layer plates of different tones and sizes to give a much-needed flair.

Add a rustic charm to your dining by using chopping boards as serving plates, with a variety of appetising kuih-muih, just like how the cafes do it. For an elegant setting, ornate silverware can complement the Raya celebrations and is sure to make festive favourites even more appealing.

Delicious food deserves some classy dinnerware to show off their tasty appeal. Arrange colourful kuih raya on a three-tier FÖRÄDLA serving stand to create a centerpiece to your flat lay photo. BJURSTA tables are extendable to accommodate extra dishes (or table decorations).

For a finishing touch, add some FEJKA artificial plants and BLOMDOFT candles to beautify the table setting. Take your flat lay photos to the next level – before all the food is gone!

2. Create a Focus Point In Your Living Room

The living room is probably one of the busiest rooms during Hari Raya. With so many family and friends in one place, it will certainly be featured in many photographs. A good place to start is to create a photo-ready centerpiece using strong colours and very defined shapes and lines. In the photo above, the FLOTTEBO sofa-bed with side table forms the centre of the photo, with its strong colour and pleasant lines. When positioned against a light coloured wall, it naturally draws a viewer’s eyes to it.

Adding patterns through soft furnishings like cushions and curtains can add style and interest to finish your personal interior design! For example, decorate a one-tone sofa or chair with NEDJA cushions to create a colourful contrast and brighten up the atmosphere. Cushions also serve a practical purpose by layering them on the floor as the base, allowing guests to use the available space and making it comfortable for everyone.

3. Layer Your Textures to Create Depth

Mixing textures and materials are another simple way to get a lot out of very little and can instantly create another layer to your interior decoration. The latest interior design trends of industrial and artisanal textures can give you a point of interest and make your home the talk among your friends. Naturally finished wood, rattan and even plants add a natural colour palate which softens your home. They also draw people in, as they can be irresistible to the touch.

To begin your layering journey, start with a strong base with a TÅRBÄK rug. These flatwoven rugs are a treat for your feet and a great way to bring groups of furniture such as couches, chair and coffee tables together. To create a point of interest in the background, employ curtains to control sunlight in style.
