The Television (TV) set is one of the most essential things in a modern home. It is kind of a centerpiece of your home, a big sculpture that sits in the center of your living room. It is also usually the center of attention in your home, because it is technically the most interesting thing in your home. It is the most colourful thing in your home, ironically, and the best storyteller of your home. It sources its stories from the likes of Netflix, and YouTube these days of course.
There is a big problem with TVs today though. They all look the same and boring. Especially when you turn it off, it is just a large black panel that sits in the center of your living room. It does not do anything else other than occupying an empty space. so, boring and useless.
This was a problem Samsung thought they could tackle back in 2018. They introduced the first ever ‘Always On’ TV to the world, The Frame TV. That was a TV that you could hang on your wall. Then in 2019 they introduced The Serif, a sculpture and center artistic piece for your living room. The Serif is not meant to blend in though, it is meant to showcase. Today though, in 2020, they launched another piece of work that could fit well into an art gallery, The Sero.
The Sero – Mobile Entertainment, TV Sized
In Korean, Sero means Vertical. That is what Samsung’s Sero is though, a vertical display for your home, your bedroom, your study, or even your living room. It is a show piece, a piece of digital art in your room.
It is an extension of your smartphone, a larger smartphone experience, if you might. But at the same time, you can experience and access it even from the comforts of your bed or couch. Oh, and it rotates.
It rotates so that you can see it as a normal horizontal display too. You might be wanting to watch Netflix and all you have to do it on your smartphone and push it to the display in an instant. It is seamless, easy, and beautiful.
Once you stop enjoying your contents, simply turn it into ambient mode, and thanks to its Magic Screen, it turns into an art gallery, or just an ambient display. And you can make it a piece anywhere in your home just by attaching the optional wheel to The Sero TV. With a 60W 4.1 channel front firing speakers, enjoying your media on The Sero beats watching and listening to your media on your smartphone.
The Serif – Award Winning Design, Fitting for a Designer Home
Then there is the ‘I’ inspired TV. The Serif is designed by the Bourollex Brother’s. It became an award winning TV thanks to its simplistic, yet beautiful looks. Why ‘I’? Look to the side, and you can see it, an ‘I’ staring back at you.
To be fair, it is an odd-looking thing. The Serif features two very sharp top and bottom frames, and quite large as well. But a TV that sits on four thin stands never looked so good. The legs are also detachable, which means that you can even put it on an existing shelf and look at home anywhere in your home.
When you are done watching all the 4K contents you can find on Netflix, you can turn it ‘off’ and turn it into a picture frame for your photos or any artwork available to you. This is not just a picture frame and a TV though, it is a piece of art in the center of your living room.
The Frame
Lastly, but surely, is The Frame. You can turn any wall in your home into an art gallery with the QLED 4K resolution. It is still a TV, yes. You can watch any 4K contents on it at your own leisure. But once you are done, turn it off, and it becomes a piece of famous art piece, or your photo gallery.
You are not restricted to the actualy size of the artwork too. The artwork you put on The Frame can be scaled to the size of your display. If not, you can just set the Magic Screen to match your wall to make it seem like it is one with your homes.
Price and Availability
Samsung’s new lifestyle TVs are all available in 4K resolution variants only. They are now available on Samsung’s online store and authorised retailers across Malaysia. The Sero will set you back MYR 6,999 and only comes in 43-inch display size. The Serif comes in 55-inch measurement and only in White colour option setting you back MYR 6,499. The Frame comes in two sizes for Malaysia, 55-inch and 65-inch variants. The 55-inch will set you back MYR 6,499 while the larger 65-inch will set you back MYR 10,999.
It is quite a bummer though knowing that the Black colour variant of The Serif will not be coming to Malaysia. There are also 43-inch and 75-inch options of The Serif, but they are also not Making it into Malaysia. The Frame also comes in 32-inch, 43-inch, 50-inch, and 75-inch variants globally, but not in Malaysia.
